CHAPTER 9, PAGE 30

A circus owner walked into a restaurant to see everyone crowded around a table watching a little show. On the table was an upside down pot and a duck tap dancing on it.

The circus owner was so impressed that he offered to buy the duck from its owner. After some wheeling and dealing they settled for $10,000 for the duck and the pot.

Three days later, the circus owner runs back to the restaurant in anger, "Your duck is a rip-off! I put him on the pot before a whole audience and he didn't dance a single step!"

"So?" asked the duck's former owner, "did you remember to light the candle under the pot?"

Did you remember to light your candle?

Have a great day!

From Alan Smith’s Thought for Today

GOOD MORNING !

Candles are great for bringing light in the darkness. Our lives are like candles that can shine for all to see. On these gloomy days of Autumn I light a lot of candles around the house…what I need to do is remember that my life may be a candle for someone else.

I need to stop complaining and start praising more. There is so much good around that sometimes, we let the bad stuff overwhelm us and push aside all the great things that are happening.

Thanksgiving is almost 2 months away, but I think I’ll start myTHANKFUL LIST today !

Today I’m very THANKFUL for the gift of family and friends, I am so blessed!

Thought for Today !

Do not sit and idly wish for wider,

new dimensions

Where you can put in practice

all your good intentions,

But at the spot God placed you,

begin at once to do

 Little things to brighten up

the lives surrounding you.

CHAPTER 9, PAGE 29

Autumn

Emily Dickinson

The morns are meeker than they were,

The nuts are getting brown;

The berry's cheek is plumper,

The rose is out of town.

The maple wears a gayer scarf,

The field a scarlet gown.

Lest I should be old-fashioned,

I'll put a trinket on.

GOOD MORNING !

It’s Friday ! The end of the work week has come once again and I’ve lots to do when I get home this evening so I’ll be ready to leave here at 6:30 in the morning to go to the Ren Fest. It’s a long 3 hour drive that I’m not looking forward to do twice in one day.

The festival opens at 10:30 so I’m leaving extra time for us to stop for breakfast on the way. Of course there is always lots of good food there to enjoy so we’ll probably be eating on and off most of the day ! The good thing is that we’ll be doing plenty of walking once we get there, so that’ll help wear off some of those calories. Here is a link to where we are going http://www.renfestival.com/

and yes, we all dress in costumes of the times…Medieval that is . Some are quite beautiful !

Meanwhile I do have to get through this work day first !

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Value the friends you have while they're around; you never know when they'll be gone.

CHAPTER 9, PAGE 28

I have known sorrow--therefore I May laugh with you, O friend, more merrily
Than those who never sorrowed upon earth
And know not laughter's worth.

I have known laughter--therefore

I May sorrow with you far more tenderly
Than those who never guess how sad a thing
Seems merriment to one heart's suffering.

Theodosia Garrison

Good Morning !

A storm front came through during the night here and now it’s very cool out.  It’s a good thing the leaves are changing so that we have a little color, otherwise it might be very gloomy looking out.

I’m looking forward to this weekend as I’ll be joining most of my family at the Ohio Renaissance Festival for the day.  We’ve been going for about 10 years now and everyone has a great time. I’ll have pictures for you on Sunday.

Only one more day of work after today !

Thought for Today !

Love what you do. Believe in your instincts.

And you'd better be able to pick yourself up

and brush yourself off every day.

CHAPTER 9, PAGE 27

If summer is a symphony,

September is a minuet.

Though September plays

host to summer's end.

There is a delicacy

as the first leaf falls gracefully

From a tree.

There is a quietude in our spirits

As twilight descends

ever so much earlier.

We remember

we picked up our books

And returned to school.

We recall how lovely it was

To walk in the late afternoon

Surrounded by such beauty,

Of autumn's splendor.

And the first time we needed that

Gorgeous sweater.

And we gather in

During this golden time

To our private places,

And to our ultimate thoughts.

We seek our joys by the fireplace,

Rekindled after its summer rest.

And gather in the beauty

And treasure every moment

Of this golden time of year!

Author Unknown.

GOOD MORNING !

We are having some golden September days here. October is just around the corner and I guess September wants us to remember just how nice she was.

I went shopping on my lunch hour yesterday and got two much needed purchases.

1. a 3 step ladder with a handle at the top to hold on to.

2. a ceramic electric heater.

I had a little step ladder in the kitchen, but every time I got to the top of it I felt a little dizzy without anything to hold on to. And with the cold weather imminent, I thought this little heater would be just the thing to keep me cozy and keep the gas bill lower. There is no need to keep the whole house warm, I just need warmth in the places that I’m in.

I will keep the thermostat at 65, but that’s pretty chilly in my drafty old house when the North winds start to blow. I still need to get a new humidifier, because I know it will feel warmer inside if the humidity is a little higher. I’ll find one on another shopping trip I’m sure.

I love going to places like, Big Lots, and A.J.Wright where the prices are much lower. Of course you never know what they may or may not have, but it’s fun looking and I get some exercise walking around .I just eat my lunch that I bring from home later on at my desk.

It’s Over the Hump day for me – mid way through the work week ! Only 2 more days and the weekend will be here again !

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Autumn to winter,

winter into spring,

Spring into summer,

So rolls the changing year,

GOOD MORNING !

We had another chilly start to the day yesterday, but the sunshine did come out and warm things up a bit. Today is supposed to be just a few degrees warmer—possibly reaching 70 degrees.

Lots of people still have pretty warm weather, but here we know that the cold days aren’t very far away.

I noticed that my cats' hair is starting to get a little thicker. I think they finally lost all of last year’s fluff and are starting on a new growth.

I’m putting on the layers again today with the anticipation of being able to take the sweater off later.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

who in our hearts and minds become extra-ordinary.

CHAPTER 9, PAGE 25

Happy we who can bask

in this warm September sun,

which illumines all creatures,

as well when they rest as when they toil,

not without a feeling of gratitude;

whose life is as blameless,

how blameworthy soever it may be,

on the Lord’s Mona-day as on his Suna-day.

Henry David Thoreau, 1817-1862

GOOD MORNING !

As you can see I had a wonderful Sunday. After church we headed out to the Museum and I was thankful that I got to go. The Maltz Jewish Museum is just about 45 minutes from home so the ride wasn’t bad at all.

They had a traveling exhibit called the Cradle of Christianity there and I was so thirilled that I actually got to see a piece of one of the Dead Sea Scrolls They wouldn’t let us take pictures inside , so I bought one of their books. Some time I hope to scan in some of the pictures so you can see them too !

We also visited the Jewish Museum itself and what a lot of history that had. Of course we enjoyed lunch and dinner out too and both those meals were delicious.

I was tired but happy when I got home and it was too late to do much, but I had most things ready for the new work week ahead ,so that was ok.

What a fast weekend !. I owe , I owe , so it’s off to work I go !

Thought for Today

Seasons come and go and

with them comes the thought

Of all the various changes

that time in its flight has brought.

But one thing never changes,

it remains the same forever,

God truly loves His children

and He will forsake them never!

CHAPTER 9, PAGE 24

Summer time is gone my friends

It slowly comes but quickly ends.

It's been replaced by time called Autumn.

Nature changes hues from top to bottom

Green gives way to red and gold.

A lovely vision to behold.

Whirling leaves go blowing by

Carrying smells of pumpkin pie.

The air turns crisp the sky fades grey.

Indian corn and bales of hay.

Overcoats and apple cider.

No more evenings on the glider.

The harvest moon so orange and round

Holidays will soon abound.

Chrysanthemum petals start to unfold

A lovely vision to behold.

Author Unknown.

GOOD MORNING !

I’m going to miss those evenings outside …being house bound is not my favorite thing. I get home from work and before you know it it’s dark outside. I can’t go for a walk or sit on the patio and watch the hummers dart in and out…

With Autumn officially now here our daylight hours will get fewer and fewer. I found some light bulbs that are supposed to make natural light…and slowly I’m replacing those around my house with them. I thought that maybe that would help.

I’m off to church this morning and then going on a little trip with my dulcimer buddies. I’ll hopefully have some pictures to show you tomorrow.

I’ll be saying a little prayer for all of you today !

Give up sin. . . . turn to virtue.

GOOD MORNING !

These were some of the things on my New Years resolution check list. I did this check up back when Spring and Summer arrived too ! It’s so easy to forget what it was I wanted to accomplish this year. This little reminder helps me to focus onwhat is important .

I’m so thankful this is Saturday morning ! I’m truly enjoying every quiet moment of it. The work week seems to take it’s toll on me and I need the weekend to re-coup. There is so much to do at home and so much I’d like to do that that there is just never enough time.

Just like the list above – all my lists are a work in progress…never done, always there. .

CHAPTER 9, PAGE 22

I believe God created nature and the world as we know it not only for our enjoyment and benefit, but also as our teacher.

Nature teaches that periods of stillness, of turning inward, periods of rest, are necessary for all of God’s creation.

Perhaps that is why God created autumn to be so beautiful, to encourage us to lose ourselves in the stillness for awhile in order to prepare for our next season of growth.

Found while surfin’ the net but expressed deeply by me also

GOOD MORNING !

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny, but cool fall day here in Ohio. Work was busy , but not so busy that I didn’t get all my work done. Everything was in order when I left for the evening.

I didn’t get a lunch hour, but the boss came in and I was able to leave at the usual 4:00. That was good, because it gave me an extra hour to enjoy the sunshine !

I was thinking on the way home how absolutely blessed we are ! We have some of the most beautiful country side and I get to see it everyday ! Some are not so fortunate.

Today is F R I D A Y and our weather man is predicting rain for most of the weekend. But you can bet I’ll be making my own ‘sunshine’ !

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
