After a while...   by Veronica A. Shoffstall

After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn with every goodbye, you learn...

GOOD MORNING !

Hopefully that sunshine is going to shine for us today !  Today is a vacation day / Family Fun Day !  It's also my DS#5's birthday !  He is an Art Teacher and while he was in college he used to be one of those guys doing charactures at the amusement park...it certainly was a good summer job for him.  Now he works for the local 'summer theatre'  doing set design in the summer.  A very talented guy !

We'll probably be spending a lot of time in 'kiddy land' today but that's ok with me ... I'm not in to riding roller coasters anyway.  I'm mostly a people watcher !

I'll have pictures tomorrow !

***Big Smile ***

I hope you're having a wonderful day too !

God Bless !

MA

I absolutely love that "after a while" piece.  I first saw it years ago in either Ann Landers or Dear Abbey, and have never grown tired of reading it.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention again.

"After a while"...best advise I have ever heard.  Every new bride should have to recite this once every day for at least a year.
