FINALLY FRIDAY - TGIF

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow--follow, oh-oh

Try to Remember, Lyrics by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt

 GOOD MORNING !

Not so long ago I was mom of seven children at home, who had lots of time for walks in the park, putting leaves in books for pressing, roasting marshmallows on a campfire, and telling ghost stories...

Now that I’m a Grand’ma’ and getting older I’m amazed at all the time I used to have and all the things I did back then.  They were such fun and rewarding days !

I’m definitely slowing down and from all I hear about our Autumn days of life, they are supposed to be so very grand

It’s a time to take life easier and do what we enjoy more. That is one thing I need to REMEMBER !

'THANKFULLY' THURSDAY !

Why is it that so many of us persist in thinking that autumn is a sad season?
Nature has merely fallen asleep,

and her dreams must be beautiful
if we are to judge by her countenance.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

GOOD MORNING !

Fall is a beautiful season, even when the colder weather comes and the sun becomes a little sparse.  It gives us a chance to cook and bake some things we haven’t had all summer and I for one love a big bowl of Chili when it gets cold.

This weekend I’m traveling down to the Ohio Renaissance Festival .  Some, but not all of my family will be there and we’ll spend the day together.  I think this annual event has been going on for about 10 years now.  They have the most awesome Chili Bread Bowls, which I will have for lunch when we get there.

I’ll be having pictures to post for you all to see on Sunday

It is rainy weather here today – so I’ll be making my own ‘sunshine’

I hope your day is a SUNNY one TOO!

Autumn. . . makes a double demand.  It asks that we prepare
for the future--that we be wise in the ways
 of garnering and keeping.
But it also asks that we learn to let go--to acknowledge
the beauty of sparseness

Bonaro W. Overstreet

Good Morning

Another busy day at work today.  Our company is having it’s year end.  This makes for a little more work than usual and it’s payroll day.  Hopefully the fuzz in my brain will clear out with a couple cups of coffee this morning I don’t think it ever cleared out yesterday, but I did get to bed early last night

9:00 and up the stairs I went !

It’s supposed to be a beautiful fall day here with temps in the mid 70’s and sunny

It’s one of those days to be out and not in

It’d be nice to put up a ‘gone fishin ‘ sign and take off, but not one person would forgive me if their paycheck wasn’t ready this week

***Big Smile***

May God bless your Day !

P.S. I got tagged with this one to pass on – so for any of you that want to pass it on – here it is:

Below is a wonderful poem Audrey Hepburn wrote when asked to share her "beauty tips.  It was read at her funeral years later.

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it
      once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed,
      revived, reclaimed, and redeemed;
      never throw out anyone.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at
the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one
for helping yourself, and the other for helping others

If you share this with another woman, something good will happen

Autumn

The morns are meeker than they were,
The nuts are getting brown;
The berry's cheek is plumper,
The rose is out of town.

The maple wears a gayer scarf,
The field a scarlet gown.
Lest I should be old-fashioned,
I'll put a trinket on.

Emily Dickinson

Good Morning

This little poem just makes you want to dress for fall !  It’ll be cooler this week and just maybe I’ll put the summer clothing away – finally.  The browns, oranges, and scarlet colors of fall are inviting

I know I’ve put a few more pounds on so I’m hoping things still fit

I was put to shame at the wedding reception we went to last weekend.  Several ladies my age were there looking like slim teenagers.  I’m getting to be a round and comfy, grand ‘ma’.  I’d like to know how they do it!

Guess it’s not one of my priorties – looking thin that is.

Happy Tuesday !

A NEW WEEK

There is a harmony in autumn,
and a lustre in its sky,
Which through the summer
is not heard or seen.

Percy Bysshe Shelley

Good Morning !

A new week, a new beginning again.  After a nice but hectic 3 day weekend, I’m off to work this morning.  It’s supposed to be raining and cooler.  Cooler all week

The house is back to QUIET and I’m going to get started on my painting again this week. So my evenings will be busy ones.  Busy from now until Christmas it seems

 90 shopping days until Christmas

And the days are getting shorter

Sun rise: 7:19 AM, set: 7:17 PM

May you be blessed with a good work for your hands today

SUDDENLY SUNDAY

The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold....
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sunburned hands, I used to hold
Since you went away, the days grow long
And soon I'll hear ol' winter's song.
But I miss you most of all my darling,
When autumn leaves start to fall
.

-  Johnny Mercer, lyrics, Autumn Leaves

GOOD MORNING !

I slept in a bit this morning as it was after midnite when I got home from the reception.

With all the wedding activities of the last 2 days, my Sunshine Babes were worn out and will be glad to be sleeping in their own beds tonite.

It was a hugh wedding party and reception. They had to have two head tables for the wedding party.  That's the first time I've seen that.

About 9:30 the 'babes' and I went to their room and I put them to bed while their mom and dad enjoyed some dancing and visiting their friends.  Of course Grand'ma' took a little nap too!

They'll be leaving for home this morning and I'll be making the adjustment to the QUIET  all over again.

I'm off to church this morning - it's bless your spirit day !

May our dear Lord bless you !

SUPER SATURDAY

One by one the petals drop
There's nothing that can make them stop.
You cannot beg a rose to stay.
Why does it have to be that way?

The butterflies I used to chase
Have gone off to some other place.
I don't know where. I only know
I wish they didn't have to go.

And all the shiny afternoons
So full of birds and big balloons
And ice cream melting in the sun Are done.
I do not want them done

By Judith Viorst

 GOOD MORNING !

Today is the wedding for my 'Sunshine Babes'  .  Our little Sunshine Boy will be a ring bearer and Son #2 a groomsman.  I'll be babysitting for our 'Little Ray' and then going to the reception to help out with them both.  They've got their hands full with one just 2 in May and the other just 1 year old this month.  It's a good thing they are both such happy babes.   Goodbye's are always hard but I'm thankful they could be home once again.  The time always flies by when you're having fun.

Yesterday was a cool one with high temps in the low 70's and I feel a little chill in the house this morning.  I guess fall really is here.

***BIG SMILE***

I hope your weekend is a super one too !

 Be Blessed!!

A DAY OFF WORK FOR ME!

The goldenrod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down

The gentian's bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusky pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun

The sedges flaunt their harvest
In every meadow-nook;
And asters by the brookside
Make asters in the brook.

From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather,
And autumn's best of cheer

Helen Hunt Jackson

GOOD MORNING

I’ve found lots of poems about autumn so I’ll be sharing them with you each day for as long as they go…. It is such a beautiful time of year that a lot of people felt it was worth writing about

I’m slowly savoring my cup of coffee this morning and just enjoying not having to rush off to work.  It feels sooooo good

Son# 2 has his friend’s wedding this weekend and I’ll be babysitting and helping with the ‘babes’ a lot so they can enjoy the special occasion.  They leave early Sunday morning, so I’ve got just 2 days left to enjoy it all

***BIG SMILE***

Have a Happy Friday

God Bless you All

HAPPY FALL Y'ALL!

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!

Robert Louis Stevenson

GOOD MORNING

Here we are – Autumn !

I don’t know where the summer went to…the lazy hazy days of summer never came this year , it seems they were just all crazy days.  This season of fall will be just as busy for me as I’ll be getting ready of Christmas.  Believe me it will take every day of it for me to get things done.  That’s one of the joys of homemade gift giving.

The new doctor confirmed what the other doctor had said – nothing new, no miracle drugs or cures are in sight for our Sweetheart.  We’ll just keep praying for a miracle for her.  We love her bunches just as she is!  Her attitude toward life is an inspiration to us all !  She just picks herself up and starts all over again

Tomorrow is a vacation day - so this day will be a long one at work as I'll need to get everything done in one day that usually gets done in two

Have a grand day all !

Over the Hump Day

A child's life is a blank page.
What will the first words be?
Shut up!
Get out of my sight.
Go play.
Don't touch!
You, that child's parent, write upon
These words teach fe
ar.

They register unwantedness.
They say, "I don't love you."
Let your words teach gentleness and beauty.
Let them supply high moral principles,
courage to meet life's disappointments, pride in a job well done.
Use words that reflect your love:
Beautiful, son!
You did a great job.
Don't worry--we'll clean it up together.
I'm so proud of you!

When your child is grown, you will look at him and see
the words you wrote on that blank page. Write words you will be proud of!

GOOD MORNING !

I think that when I look at all my children I see words written that I’m very proud of.  They all have worked so hard and done so much with their lives.  They are all loving, kind and considerate people.  Their dad died when most of them were quite young and what they’ve accomplished has been on their own, with no handouts from their parents.  They reflect the love that their dad and I had for them and for each other.  That means more than all the $$$ in the world.  With the good Lord’s help and a lot of love, impossible things can happen

Please say a little prayer for our Sweetheart – she goes to a new doctor today to see if something can be done to control her seizures.  Our little one has suffered these since she was about 6 months old and she’ll be 3 in just a few weeks

After today only one more day of work left this week!  Friday is a vacation day for me.  I’ll be spending time with the ‘babes’ and loving every minute

Have a very good ‘Hump’ day – we’re on the downhill slide into the weekend

Happy Tuesday !

Tail of Happiness

Once there was this kitten that was chasing its tail. It just chased it and chased. An older wiser cat came along and he watched this kitten. The cat watched the kitten for a long time. Then he asked the kitten, "Kitten, why do you chase your tail?" The kitten replied, "Because I will find happiness in my tail." The old cat watched for a time longer then he said, "I, too, use to chase my tail because I thought I would find happiness there. But I realized that I didn't need to chase my tail for wherever I went it seemed to follow." And the old cat got up and walked away with his tail whishing behind

GOOD MORNING !

Thank the good Lord, there is happiness to be found in each day!  This morning I'm listening to the baby monitor now parked in my living room....snores coming from above...

How nice to have someone else at home! The tick-tock of the clocks is all I'd usually be hearing.

The pictures above were sent in a nice email from DDIL#2.  We haven't heard much from them since the hurricane, but she wrote that they are doing well and DS#2 had his pinning ceremony on the 16th and his advancement in rank is official now.

Now I'm off to work !

Have a blessed day all !
